Blending and color correction is a beast of a whole new level — juggling gels is always kind of an ordeal and half in a news reporting situation. The concept itself makes sense — “match the ugly” to make toning in post a lot easier. But the technique is kind of a lot to deal with. I spent most of my shoots v confused and v frustrated. I ended up finding fluorescent lighting that I was able to gel with a green gel and somewhat neutralize.
Color Correction In Camera Image
Toned In Post Image:
Overall, it’s impressive to see how gels can help better a lighting situation and they have uses outside of just fun artistic photoshoots. The gel queen has learned new things about gels! I think the difference between the toned post and untoned post image is very subtle. Although I prefer the untoned, gelled image. Both look good because the gel and correct white balance were able to fix the lighting in camera, but the toned post production image looks most light white flash white balance with a ting of blue and the in camera image looks warmer.
